Good Afternoon KMS Parents,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. It’s hard to believe that winter has officially arrived and now spring has found it's way back to Northeast Ohio.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the 7th and 8th-grade trip fundraiser at Candy Cloud on November 20th and to those who completed the parent survey on the KMS schedule. Your time and input are truly appreciated, and your feedback will help guide changes for the next semester and the coming school year.

Congratulations to 7th grader Vince Scalish for being named the next KMS Student of the Month!

The next 10 school days will fly by as we approach winter break. Students will have a variety of activities, including the 8th-grade field trip to Auburn Career Center (tomorrow), benchmark quarterly assessments, and a staff vs student volleyball game to benefit the Lallo Family.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this year’s food drive. We’ve collected an impressive amount of donations to support those in need here in Kirtland. However, we’d love to see even more contributions come in! Foods/Goods collections run through this Friday, December 13!! Let's make a collective push to support those in need here in Kirtland.

Fundraisers and Events

  • Chipotle Night: Join us on December 11th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, for a 7th & 8th Grade Trip fundraiser at Chipotle. Mark your calendars for this fun event!

  • Ronald McDonald Pop Can Tab Collection: After just one week, we’ve collected an incredible number of tabs—enough to fill a large bin! Thank you for your continued support of this initiative.

  • Staff vs Student Volleyball game to help support Evan Lallo and his family.

Schedule Survey

If you haven’t yet completed the parent survey, please take a moment to share your thoughts by clicking the link below:

[Parent Feedback on New Schedule]

Students have already completed their surveys, and the data will be reviewed by our Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) to guide potential adjustments for the second semester or next year. Our goal is to create the best possible experience for students, both socially and academically.

This information will be presented to the board in January, and I’ll share the presentation with you in a future newsletter.

Important Dates

Don’t forget to review the KMS Important Dates for 2024-2025 at the bottom of this newsletter. This calendar includes key events such as band and choir concerts, quarterly benchmarks, holiday breaks, and field trips.

Sincerely,

Mr. Race

Message from Mrs. Gordon

Hello Parents!

There are a few things I would like to ask for your help with.

Students are not turning in their loaner laptops and/or chargers in a timely manner which leaves some students without a loaner when needed. Laptops are not being charged at night which is very important so that there are loaners available for students whose laptops need to go to tech.

Thank you so much for your help with this.

Mrs. Gordon

Kirtland Academic Academy

The idea for KAA came out of a series of discussions the Building Leadership Team had regarding our desire to help students who need a little assistance every so often, while also trying to hold students with high amounts of missing work accountable. Missing work can have such a profoundly negative impact on student learning and success within the classroom and we want to provide something that can help. We believe that this program is a tremendous opportunity for kids who need help getting back on track, while also supporting students that just need a bit of assistance every now and again.

All KMS students are welcome at KAA. The academic team - including teachers, parents, and administrators - has the discretion to make this program mandatory for students with excessive missing work which negatively impacts student learning and success within the classroom.

In many ways, KAA is homework help, tutoring, and general academic assistance for any KMS student in attendance. KMS students do not need to sign up for KAA. They simply need to show up with things they want to work on, sign in, and get the help they need. We are confident that this process will help these students find great success.

Kirtland Middle School - Important Dates 2024-2025

The link provided will take you the Kirtland Middle School - Important Dates for the 23-24 school year. There are still a few things that need to be added at the end of the school year, but they will be updated in the next couple of days. My goal for the year is to be as transparent as possible to major events taking place down the road at the school. I will continue to add to the important date section of the newsletter for upcoming events, but if you are wanting to plan for things, please refer to this document.
