KHS Updates and Reminders

Good morning KHS Students, Parents, and Staff,

Spring Break is finally here and the end of the 3rd Quarter is right around the corner. Parents, as the weather gets nicer and the final quarter of the school year gets underway we need your help with reinforcing expectations with students while at school. Please continue to remind your child(ren) that they need to wear their mask correctly, bring a fully charged laptop and their charging cord to school with them daily, and follow all school rules for everyone's safety and a smooth end of the year.

Parents, if any of your children will be changing their learning modality for the 4th Quarter, please complete this Google Form by Wednesday, April 7th.

Information about District Plans & Issue 1

Issue 1, which will appear on the May 4 ballot, will renew our existing 1.10 mill Permanent Improvement (PI) levy and add 0.95 mills while continuing to fund the ongoing repair and maintenance of school district facilities.

The current PI levy was passed 25 years ago and generates the same $250,000 per year as it did when originally passed. Currently, necessary facility improvements and repairs cost up to $350,000 each year, requiring the District to forego or defer maintenance projects every year.

Some examples of challenges that can be addressed with Issue 1 funds:

  • Enhancements to a high school science lab that is poorly laid out, have Bunsen burners without gas, and leaking sinks that are too small for proper use.
  • Upgrades to furniture and carpet in the K-3rd grade classrooms to allow for changing educational formats.
  • Technology improvements to allow teachers to provide personalized instruction and to prepare students for future digital demands.
  • Enhanced surveillance systems and security.

Issue 1 funds would allow the district to address these issues along with other critical items in our capital improvement plan. It would add $2.75/month per $100,000 of your property value.

Our district is very proud to earn the State Auditor’s “Taxpayer Hero” award for fiscal responsibility, but facility needs cannot be addressed through wise fiscal management alone.

Ohio State University Virtual Data Science for Women Summer Camp

The Ohio State University - Translational Data Analytics Institute hosts a free summer camp every year with the goal of inspiring more young women to enter the field of data science and analytics.  The 2021 camp will be 100% virtual and 100% free. This year’s camp will run July 13-16 from 9 am – 12:30 pm daily.  Young women who will be entering grades 8, 9, or 10 in the fall of 2021 are encouraged to apply, though the camp is open to all students interested in attending that will be in grades 8, 9, or 10 next year. Applications are due April 30.  Visit to learn more or to apply to the camp.
