6-12 Updates and Reminder - Please Complete our Survey

Hello KHS and KMS parents,

We made it to the weekend.  A great week of learning and one week until spring break - so that is also exciting for our students.  I hope everyone is finding opportunities to get out when the weather is warm and the sun is shining.  I know it puts me in an instant great mood.  Below are some reminders and attachments for you to read and review for upcoming events and general information.

Parent Survey - SEL (Please Fill Out Below - Thank You)

6-12 Parents,

In efforts to gather input regarding the social-emotional needs of our students, we are asking that you complete this survey. Thank you for your willingness to share your thoughts to help us better understand how to serve your children.

Please complete the parent survey by Wednesday 3/24/21.

Information about District Plans and Issue 1

Issue 1, which will appear on the May 4 ballot,  will renew our existing 1.10 mill Permanent Improvement (PI) levy and add 0.95 mills while continuing to fund the ongoing repair and maintenance of school district facilities.

The current PI levy was passed 25 years ago and generates the same $250,000 per year as it did when originally passed.  Currently, necessary facility improvements and repairs cost up to $350,000 each year, requiring the District to forego or defer maintenance projects every year.

Some examples of challenges that can be addressed with Issue 1 funds:

  •  Enhancements to a high school science lab that is poorly laid out, have Bunsen burners without gas, and leaking sinks that are too small for proper use.

  • Upgrades to furniture and carpet in the K-3rd grade classrooms to allow for changing educational formats.

  • Technology improvements allow teachers to provide personalized instruction and to prepare students for future digital demands.

  • Enhanced surveillance systems and security.

Issue 1 funds would allow the district to address these issues along with other critical items in our capital improvement plan. It would add $2.75/month per $100,000 of your property value.

Our district is very proud to earn the State Auditor’s “Taxpayer Hero” award for fiscal responsibility, but facility needs cannot be addressed through wise fiscal management alone.

Graduation

Our administration and senior advisors continue planning multiple opportunities for our 2021 Commencement for our seniors.  We are potentially closer (very close) to securing an indoor facility for Graduation.  Senior Parents - Continue to keep June 5th and June 6th open for graduation planning.  There is a potential of having Commencement of our 2021 class on either day.  Our main focus is the safety of all our students, parents, and community while providing a memorable Commencement for the class of 2021.

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

Mr. Leone and I continue to look at opportunities to celebrate the 8th-grade promotion to KHS.  We will have a specific event for our 8th Grade Class for our students with a live streaming option.

Prom - May 7th

We continue to plan our 2021 Senior Prom for our students.  Unfortunately, due to our venue and health restrictions and protocol, we will only have a Senior (plus 1 guest) Prom this year.  We are evaluating all health expectations and protocol to make informed decisions as we move forward related to events during our Senior Prom.

  • After Prom - We are currently moving forward with the planning of our traditional After Prom festivities.  After Prom will follow Prom as usual at KHS. If you are a senior parent, please reach out to Michelle Cramp at [email protected] or Monica Loncar at [email protected] for donations and volunteer opportunities.  (Alternative Plans - After Prom Picnic and Fun Day)

Senior Experience / May Schedule Reminder

Unfortunately, due to the current situation with the pandemic, we will not be able to have our seniors participate in the Senior Project this year.  Seniors WILL NOT have final exams but will be expected to participate in our KHS Senior Experience at the high school.  Again, Senior Experience is required.
