World Down Syndrome Awareness Day

Dear Kirtland Families,

Monday, March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day. World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

We encourage everyone to show support for Down syndrome awareness and WDSD by wearing fun socks or Down syndrome awareness gear to school on Monday. If you don’t have either of those, please wear blue or yellow socks to show support. We also encourage families to have conversations that promote awareness and inclusion of all people of differing abilities.

You can find more information about WDSD and Down syndrome at https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org

Thank you for supporting this very worthy cause!

Mr. Greg Cosimi
