??????Hello KES Families,

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! The 5th graders had a great Spring Concert last Wednesday. Thank you to the PTA and Kelly Addis for facilitating the PTA Bingo Night. It was a lot of fun!

On Tuesday, May 6 we will have JIM "BASKETBALL' JONES visit KES. National Youth Motivational Speaker and children's book author - Jim "Basketball" Jones is visiting our school. He will share his three books and the inspiration that helped him and his wife, Brenda, create the adorable characters of Bouncy, Yeti, and Speedy. Fill out the order form below to receive autographed copies of these fun children's books on the day of the assembly.

On Tuesday, May 6 is the Band Concert with Jazz Band for Grades 5 & 6. Student call time is 5:40 PM and the performance is at 6:00 PM in the KES Gym.

Grades 3-5 will be taking their Ohio State Tests for Math on April 29 & 30.

On test days, please make sure your student is present and on time. Testing starts at 9:00 AM. Students will need headphones and a mouse for their Chromebooks. Make sure all Chromebooks are charged nightly. Here are some testing tips for your student:

  • Get enough sleep: Aim for 8-10 hours of quality sleep the night before.
  • Eat a healthy meal: Have a balanced breakfast before the test. Avoid sugary foods.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink water to keep your brain functioning optimally.
  • Manage stress: Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing or visualization.

Please see our Preschool registration flyer below for the 2025-2026 school year. We currently only have PM slots opened.

Please make sure you view all the attached flyers below. There are a lot of engaging and fun events that you do not want to miss. Taco Fundraiser, Night of Music, Spring Celebration, Cheer Camp, & Basketball Camp.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our Celebration of Learning. The event will take place on Thursday, May 22. Please make sure you fill out the RSVP as soon as possible so everyone can have a smooth and enjoyable experience. RSVP link

The "Just Run" program will practice on Tuesday morning at 7:45 and Thursday during recess. Students have already ran over 10 miles. They have also learned why it is important to drink 8 glasses of water and eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

Ice cream will be sold on on Fridays during lunch. Students must know their lunch code numbers to buy it. Please load extra money on your child's account if they want to purchase the special snack on Fridays.

All families dropping off in the morning and/or picking up their students must do so in the front of the building. There is a lot of traffic flow during arrival and dismissal and we do not want to create an unsafe situation. We appreciate your cooperation because we want to keep all kids safe.

We are hiring a long term Lunch Monitor Subs and a Latch Key Assistant, please let me know if you are interested.

Thank you to the parents who attended the Kindergarten Parent Meeting on March 19th. Registration on Final Forms is now open. Please upload your documents by May 2. Kindergarten Shadow Day sign up is below. Classroom visit dates will be May 7, 8, 15, & 20.

Kindergarten Registration Information for 2025-26

Our Hornet Trait focus for April is "Engaged". Students should wear blue on Tuesdays.

If your child is sick, please keep them home so they can rest, get better, and not spread germs. If students go home sick with a fever or throwing up, they must stay home for 24 hours to make sure they are fully recovered. Please remind your child to wash their hands frequently to help reduce germs. I am also suggesting that students use hand sanitizers before they eat their lunches.

Students are not allowed to bring phones and/or smart watches to school. They can be a distraction and we do not want anything misplaced or lost.

When students visit the nurse, an automated email will be sent to families to let them know when and why the student was in the Nurse's Office.

Please report all transportation changes by 2:00 pm so we can make sure the students receive the updated information.

Please remember to pay your child's school fees for the 2024-25 school year. If you are sending checks in for fees or lunches, please make sure you write separate checks because they go into different accounts.

Please keep all toys at home unless a teacher has directed other wise. We want to make sure students are not distracted by their toys and we want to prevent lost toys.

All visitors must stop in the Main Office to receive a visitor's badge and all volunteers need to be fingerprinted.

Memo from the Clinic

As the end of the school year approaches and students' activity levels increase, we want to take a moment to remind you of the school's policy regarding non-prescription medications and first aid treatment.

Non-Prescription Medications
Non-prescription medications are only administered on a must-need basis when symptoms that warrant medication administration are found on assessment by the school nurse or health aide and in accordance with our school board policy. Specifically:

  • Grades K-5: A student may be allowed to receive over-the-counter medication upon the written authorization of the parent. The parent must provide a written request for the student to possess and administer over-the-counter medications and submit it to the school office for inclusion in the student's records.

Please ensure that proper paperwork (found on the Kirtland school nurse website) is brought to school, as we are committed to following these guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

First Aid Treatment
In the event of minor injuries or discomforts, the following first aid practices will be implemented:

  • Abrasions, Minor Cuts, and Scratches: The affected area will be cleansed with soap and water, and a band-aid will be applied.

  • Headaches: If a student has a fever (>100.4F) or appears ill, they will be sent home. Otherwise, the student will be allowed to rest for a while.

  • Stomach Aches: If the pain is severe, or the student has a fever (>100.4F) or appears unwell, the student will be sent home.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a healthy and safe environment for all of our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the clinic.

-Mrs. Formichelli, Mrs. Koeth & Mr. Terry
