KIRTLAND LOCAL SCHOOLS UPDATE 10/24/22 Superintendent Chad VanArnhem started the Board of Education Meeting with his report updating the school board and community on a few topics. - The KHS Science Lab: The new ceiling tiles and lighting has been installed. The room is painted, and the floor is prepped for laminate installation. The cabinets have been installed with the countertops expected to be in very soon. The monitors for each station and teacher projection have arrived. The classroom is expected to be ready by the start of the second semester.
- A District Health and Wellness meeting took place on 10/13/22 consisting of staff, students and parents. Some highlights included:
- A step challenge that 50 staff members are participating in
- KES held a walkathon to raise funds to purchase fitness equipment for their students
- KES has a Walking Wednesday for the students and staff to take healthy breaks
- All three buildings are offering movement breaks to students during long periods of instruction
- All three buildings discussed ways that they are supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of their students
- Mr. VanArnhem then gave a presentation on the state report card that recently came out from the Ohio Department of Education. He stated he was very proud of the effort and achievement of the students and staff. The students performed very well compared to other similar districts and all districts around the state. All three buildings had many strengths and a few areas to improve upon. The data allows us to know specifically which students, grades and subjects need extra attention and support. Based on the report card data, our students were close, at the end of last school year, to pre-pandemic achievement levels! He was very proud to share that the district was ranked #56 out of 607 in the state, ranked #1 in Lake County and in the top 9% of schools in Ohio! - The Board approved a resolution for a turf modification in the upcoming stadium renovation. The resolution states the finances for this modification are coming from private money that include our Kirtland Athletic Boosters and money for the stadium naming rights.
Treasurer Lew Galante proposed, and the Board voted to approve an account to hold advertisement dollars that can be spent on future facility upkeep including the replacement of the turf down the road. Mr. VanArnhem also told the Board and community that Kirtland High School will be featured on Channel 19 starting at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, October 28. Please tune in as our students and staff highlight their Hornet Pride! Lastly, it is Moe’s Fundraising Night on Tuesday, October 25 for the Kirtland PTA. Moe’s is donating 25% of every sale back to the PTA! Moe’s is located at 7599 Mentor Ave. in Mentor and orders must be placed by 10:00 pm.
