Welcome to the Kirtland Schools’ Key Communicator e-newsletter. We hope to use this tool as a two-way form of communication to share the good news going on in our classrooms, and also provide you with facts in the event of negative situations. We hope you will act as informal communications liaisons with the community and let us know what you’re hearing so we can proactively provide you with the facts of what’s happening in your schools. Thank you for your support!

KIRTLAND LOCAL SCHOOLS 2020-2021 REOPENING PLANS

Hello Kirtland Parents and Caregivers,

I hope you are all enjoying your summer and are doing well.  I would like you to take a minute to review the Return to School Plan.  Please know that I have been in collaboration with our staff, other local superintendents, the Lake and Geauga Health Departments, Chief Hutton with the KFD and our own Kirtland parents that work in the healthcare field to put together the best possible plan to educate our students while taking precautions to keep our students, staff and families safe.

Please take a minute to watch the video (Parent Video) and/or read the attached Return to School Plan.   We are asking all families to make a choice through Final Forms by August 7 as to how your child(ren) will attend school.  The options are:

I would like my child to return to school WITH busing.

I would like my child to return to school WITHOUT busing.

I would like my child to attend remote learning by Kirtland teachers.

We will use this information to help us plan the start of school in order to help make sure we have the staffing needs to best meet the needs of our students, families and staff.  Likewise, we will use the updated information to route our buses to meet the protocols outlined in our plan.  Your selection will commit your child to this setting through the first trimester at KES and first semester at KMS and KHS.  We appreciate everyone’s assistance in making their decision by Friday, August 7, 2020.  You can find the link on slide 25 or access it here: https://kirtland-oh.finalforms.com/.  Please complete the “incomplete forms” within Final Forms.

On slide 25 of the Return to School Plan, there also is a link to submit questions.  We will answer these questions through our website at: http://www.kirtlandschools.org/COVID-19Updates.aspx under the “Question and Answer” tab.  Furthermore, I will be holding a number of in person and virtual Town Hall Meetings in the coming weeks to help provide further clarification on our plan and assist families in understanding how the year will begin.  More information will be forthcoming regarding the times, dates and locations of these meetings.

At the Board of Education meeting on Monday, July 27 at 7 p.m. in the KES gym,  Mr. Wade and I will do a presentation on the Return to School Plan. We will have space for the first 100 people to attend the meeting in person.  It also will be live streamed. We plan on providing answers to common questions submitted from the form, as well as any from the people who attend.  You can always email us directly to get answers as well.

It is my intent to work with our families to help them make the choice that best meets their needs, while helping ensure the safety of our community is maintained in order to provide the level of education we expect for our students.  Please also realize we are constantly monitoring the pandemic and, as such, our plan is fluid and is always subject to change.  As changes occur, I will communicate updates as soon as practical.   Thank you for your patience with this process.

Take care,

Chad VanArnhem
