Welcome to the Kirtland Schools’ Key Communicator e-newsletter. We hope to use this tool as a two-way form of communication to share the good news going on in our classrooms, and also provide you with facts in the event of negative situations. We hope you will act as informal communications liaisons with the community and let us know what you’re hearing so we can proactively provide you with the facts of what’s happening in your schools. Thank you for your support!

                 KIRTLAND LOCAL SCHOOLS UPDATE 12/3/21

Hello Kirtland Families,

On November 22, Mr. Amstutz started the Board of Education meeting by recognizing the AP scholars from the high school.  Congratulations to the students for earning this prestigious accomplishment. (See the list below).

Mr. VanArnhem gave a Permanent Improvement update on the stadium construction. On November 5th, a group evaluated and shortlisted three construction managers against a qualifications rubric.  The group consisted of two architects from TDA, attorney David Riley and Chad VanArnhem who all scored the five companies that applied for the Request for Qualification. The three companies that scored the highest and were shortlisted were (Hammond Construction, Greenspace and Marous Brothers Construction). A timeline has been established for hiring the construction manager.  The CM will be approved by the Board of Education in early March and they will start construction April 1st on phase one (turf, lights, scoreboard and KHS science lab).  Phase one is to be completed by August 1, 2022 so it can be used for the Fall athletic season. Phase two (relocating the buses, new drive with a turning lane, track resurfaced, new stands, concession and restrooms) will be completed by August 1, 2023.  On November 16th, a meeting took place with architects from TDA and a variety of stakeholders from the community to give feedback on turf, stands and the pressbox. All of the PI updates and plans can be found on the website homepage at: PI Updates.

Mr. Lew Galante presented the financial five year forecast and it was approved by the Board. The forecast can be found at: 5 Year Forecast.

The Board of Education did their first reading on the proposed calendar for the 2022-2023 school year that can be found on our website at: 22-23 School Calendar.  The Board of Education also voted to approve a two year contract with the Kirtland Education Association.

Congratulations and best of luck to the Kirtland Hornet Football team as they go for their 4th consecutive state title on Saturday at 7:30 pm at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton! I hope to see you there!

Thank you for your support and go Hornets!

Chad VanArnhem, Superintendent
