Hello Kirtland Parents,

I want to make you all aware of the growing concern with vaping among adolescence.  Vaping comes in cartridges (“carts”) that are very easy to hide and are near odorless.  The cartridges for these vapes can contain a variety of materials from nicotine to synthetic THC (marijuana).  The results of inhaling these vapes with unknown materials can make students extrelly ill. Vaping is taking place across the country and comes with health concerns to our children.  

I have met with a student group at KMS; students have expressed concerns about some of their peers that are potentially vaping.  I will also be meeting and having discussions with students from the high school. 

I am reaching out to you all so we can work together to address this issue with our children. In the coming weeks, our Student Resource Officer, along with the support of the ADAMHS Board, will be meeting with students in grades 5-12 to discuss the dangers of vaping.  He will also follow up in small groups, to have these discussions with our students. I am asking you to please look over the attached materials (below) and have conversations with your child(ren) about the dangers of vaping as well.  We will continue to work together to best support our most valuable resource - our children.
