Dear KHS Families,
Any Juniors taking the optional SAT next Tuesday are permitted to leave for home after the test. They may stay for classes though if they would like. The week of the 14th begins state testing, which causes many changes to the schedule. Please reference the below document for all information regarding testing.
KHS End of Course Testing Information
After consulting with my Principal Advisory Committee and other student leaders, I have decided to afford students the opportunity to exempt themselves from 4th quarter benchmark tests. Students who take a state end of course test or an AP test will already be exempt for 4th quarter benchmarks in those classes. Additionally, seniors do not take 4th quarter benchmarks. For all other classes that require a benchmark, if a student earns an “A” average in the summative assessment category of the 4th quarter grade, they will be exempt from the 4th quarter benchmark in that class. The theory is that if a student has shown mastery of the 4th quarter material, and has already taken 3 quarterly exams in the class, there is no need for another large assessment. More specifics regarding 4th quarter benchmarks will be communicated at a later date.
Mrs. Bowen, our Gifted Coordinator, has asked me to send a survey out to students regarding improving our career mentoring opportunities. The survey will be optional for students, but I will ask them to consider completing it. I have reviewed the survey, and I believe it will help guide us as we aim to connect students with professionals in their prospective career field. The optional survey will be sent to students Monday. If you would like a copy of the survey questions, please let me know.
